2005 had been a great year. I’ve made some really good friends (you know who you guys are), travelled a bit, spoke at few conferences, and generally had loads of fun.
January: The best thing that could’ve happened: I joined Yahoo!. We started BangPypers; not very active, but it has certainly brought a lot of the Python folks together.
February: Did a lot of REBOL stuff. Quit Python. Started using Ruby for most things. Turned 22. Ruby turned twelve. We started Ruby India. Spoke at a conference in Pune; we ditched the post-conf whatever and went to a pub where we had good fun. Warren and I cabbed it to Bombay; we reached in less than 2.5 hours.
March: Spoke at Agile Bangalore. Wrote Ruby interfaces for Yahoo!’s services, and Flickr (then not part of Yahoo!). Attended Mark Knopfler’s concert.
April: Got published in the Python Cookbook — first time in a book. Went to Hyderabad for the first time (to speak at the ILUG-Hyd meet). Met a lot of cool LJers there, many of whom are no longer in Hyd.
May: Ran a marathon — another first. Wrote a crappy script that got posted all over; made it to CNET, etc. Went for Joe Satriani’s concert. Moved to Communities. Started writing a column on Ruby for LFY.
August: Went to Taiwan. Wrote a few apps using the Yahoo! APIs; a couple of them were demoed at OSCON and Web 2.0. Didn’t like Bangkok. Spoke at Agile India in Bombay; had a good conversation with a couple of folks from the UK.
September: Went to Sri Lanka to speak at FOSSSL, Colombo; met a lot of good folks; had god conversations with few others.
October: Went to California. Visited Yosemite, Universal Studios, etc. Couldn’t meet my college-mates in LA. Met a lot of cool folks, in and outside office, many of whom I’ve interacted with online. Couldn’t attend RubyConf. Met with an accident. Lap dance. :-p Met some of my colleagues in Hong Kong.
November: Got published in another O’Reilly book: Yahoo! Hacks. My first paper got published in an ACM magazine. Was in office on Diwali. The Ruby track at FOSS.IN was good.
