It occurred to me, while mulling over some possible changes to De.linque.nt, that one can use Del.icio.us as a message queue or a tuple space for distributed applications. Really.

It has all one needs: a message or entry name, space for some additional message content, a date, an owner, and tags so that apps can selectively retrieve appropriate messages. De.linque.nt makes it easy, and as you can encrypt the messages there less chance of someone stumbling on anything important (though, really, using a Del.icio.us message queue is best reserved for those Not So Critical applications).

Or have one or more apps post messages to Del.icio.us, and have other apps pull instructions via RSS feeds. You could drive all sorts of things that way. All sneaky like.
