After a rash of failed OS installation attempts, I finally hit paydirt this afternoon. I found someone with a copy of Solaris 10 and installed it on the Sunblade 150.

Very, very nice. I'm definitely inspired to try to get this OS installed as my "other" operating system on my home box.

The Good

The installation CD's comes with lots of recent (optional) software packages, including Ruby. Setup was easy and painless. The Java Desktop Environment looks very, very slick. Oh, and it (finally) comes with a decent browser - Mozilla 1.7 instead of Netsuck 4.7.

The Bad
The Java Desktop Environment is somewhat piggy (no surprise there), and there was noticable lag in even simple things like 'ls' output in the terminal.

That being said, this is a 650 Mhz Ultra Sparc IIe. On one of the more powerful Sun workstations, or most any recent x86, I'm sure it will be fine. I can at least say that CDE is responsive. :)

Mind you, I can't be positive how the x86 version will compare with 100% certainty, but it definitely shows promise.
