Feed Description: A weblog about Python from the view point of Jarno Virtanen.
For those of you with the website reading disability also known as
reading-weblogs-through-the-rss-feed-disease (a disease that I too
have) and with reluctance to bother to see for yourself (with which I
can symphatize) I can inform that I have added a list of the titles of
30 latest weblog entries in the side bar.
The decision to add such a facility was due to my short-sighted
but crisp analysis of calendars as navigational aids for weblog
archives and a sudden realization that there is not much else on
this site, this weblog, than the front page and the archives. And by
following the usability principle of minimizing navigation I
decided to move some of the archives to the front page. All of the
archives obviously cannot be on the front page, but even only some of
it will probably reduce some of the unnecessary navigation.
On unrelated news, "Lulu of the Lotus-Eaters" briefly describes what
is the
origin of the term list comprehension. Also, a book by
David Mertz, who most certainly does not eat lotuses, Text
Processing in Python, has been published. Mertz is providing a
copyrighted enhanced-ascii version of
the book on-line, which is nice, too. As a kind-of-a-quick-review
I would like to note that I really like the way he has come
up with realistic goal-driven examples.
