I've spent a lot of time this week working out bugs in the cache simulations. Many of the results reported in earlier blog entries -- both on cache access performance and on 2Q simulation results were wrong. That seems to be par for the course: The cache simulations are sometimes complicated. Understanding simulation results means checking the results for consistency ten different ways. Eventually you understand what the numbers are telling you and how they relate to each other.
