There's a terrific profile of R.W. (Johnny) Apple, Jr. by Calvin Trillan in last week's New Yorker. Apple is an associate editor of the New York Times and a character. He is a larger than life character -- a great reporter and an expert on food, wine, architecture, and everything else -- and the profile is full of entertaining anecdotes.
