friend: hola
friend: what do u recommend as a good introductory book on snakes
friend: i mean python
me: you have to tell me why you want to become a snake-charmer 1st
friend: not me - a friend of mine
friend: he's a software test
friend: who wants to expand his skill set
me: does he succeed or fail?
friend: he took programming and math in college
me: ...if he is a test
friend: i thought a scripting language wood be good for him, since it can possibly help him with his current job as well
me: "dive into python": good book, free on the web (diveintopython.org), has paper edition, covers unit testing
friend: kool
me: I learned python from it
me: all our testers use python scripts
me: for automated tests
friend: yup
friend: i thought it would be perfect for him
me: I use it for everything that does not *require* c++

friend: help his current job and expnad his skills
me: you should think about expanding your skill set too, unless you are scheming a carrer change...
me: it helped me get the job I have now
friend: i'm always scheming a carrer change
friend: :-P
friend: but i may want to expnad anyway
friend: what do u recommend?
friend: snaky?
me: it's a very good start. it is very similar to C in the beginning, and you can get productive very quickly doing C-like programming; but as you get more comfortable/advanced very new/different/interesting/productive ways of programming open up.
friend: sounds good
me: It also has 'batteries included' - a ton of built-in libraries plus a ton that are easyly installed.
friend: kool
