I'll just say the obvious: the luck of money did not do most of the avoidable damage, it was definitely lack of planning, nothing else - Unkle Sam really blew it this time, and there is going to be hell to pay. But a LOT of people will need money later, so donate now while you a thinking about it, and before that iPod phone comes out... I am serious (about donating).
BTW, Sri Lanka donated 25K. I know it's babkes, but they are piss-poor there and this seemed heart-felt. I wonder how much Saudi Arabia is going to give, considering the gas prices and that we helped them to not become a part of the Greater Saddamistan.

You can relive the hurricane through this excellent blog: http://www.livejournal.com/users/interdictor/2005/08/29/ It starts on Monday, before the storm actually hit, and goes through the whole thing, with very frequent updates. The guy is a second-in-command running an ISP in NO (http://www.directNIC.com), and the term is very appropriate since he is apparently an ex-mil guy. He also has pics and webcam feeds. Wow.
