You may have thought on reading my missive on closed source reinvention
that there is no highers costs to closed source vs open source other than
labor. Well in fact you are wrong, let me show you how wrong you are in
this assumption.
Every closed source OS company whether is a
Network company such as Csisco or a computer OS company such as Microsoft
has a terms within theirr software licensing to prevent relicensing of
said OS on same hardware if hardware is sold. For an example read this
InfoWorld article. It not only cost millions dollars in buying new
hardware when odl hardware is beeging to be used but also costs millions
of dollars in cleaning up the pollution of dumping that hardware in a
landfill!
In patents in compuitng its far worse in that in layman
terms a patent says that that company has the rights to 100% of your sales
or less if you independently discover their idea. Now that made sense
when this country was young and less than a million people, but with
billions of educated people and technical unique idea is an oxy moron in
fields of web services, IT, computer languages, and etc.
