I just went to ddj.com and notice the blurb about two subscription membership effectively locking away the html forms of articles from free viewing. Is DDJ in toruble or needing more money? Usually when a programming journal switches to this model its more trouble than its worth, JavaWorld recently switched back to free content after a similar move earlier this year.

Maybe its sign of Java increasing interest as DDJ does not cover java all that well when compared to its C/C++ coverage.
