At one point in prior years I was involved in a startup that had his idea of implementing ads in games. Has anyone ever made profits in selling adspace in games themselves or the splash screen?

What triggered my revisiting this question is that plenty of brands in fact have mascots. Now, guess what type of game genre leads to using those mascots? Role Playing Games tend to lead towards being able to use those brand mascots in games fo adventure with the brand theme as the extra character in the game.

It would be the ideal way to rescue the RPG game genere segment which until now has been flooded with lack luster RPG games.
