Java Plugin Framework (JPF) 0.3 Released
The framework is based on concept of plug-ins. A plug-in is a structured component that contributes code and resources to the system and describes them in a structured way. Plug-ins can define extension points, well-defined function points that can be extended by other plug-ins. When a plug-in contributes an implementation for an extension point, we say that it adds an extension to the system. After the book writing calms down I'll have to find time to compare this to Eclipse and Spring RCP.
