There has been a lot of rumour surrounding a Google Browser. This was compounded when Ben Goodger (Mozilla lead) got hired by Google.
A lot have said "why would Google care about a damn browser?".
Blake Ross of Mozilla put it nicely:
Second, Googles interest in Firefox shouldnt be a surprise to anyone. At the end of the day, 90+% of Googles users are accessing its service through the browser created and controlled by its largest competitor. Would you feel comfortable if customers had to walk through your competitors shop to get to your own? This is really what Firefox is all about from a strategic standpoint, and this is what its just a browser! naysayers are missing: he who owns the window to the web owns the web. When theres one porthole on the ship, everyone has to look through it. Firefox seeks to add more portholes to make sure people really understand whats going on outside.
I, for sure, welcome any collaboration between Mozilla and Google. It is time for browsers to have another evolutionary leap, and Google can help make that change. This will also make Microsoft get their IE team doing some work again too.
