Simon Brown points to a RSS Reader plugin for Eclipse. The tool has a RSS reading perspective. It understands RSS versions 0.90, 0.91, 0.92, 1.0, and 2.0. Other syndication formats can be added using plugins. It has a search feature. Update times can be set for individual feeds.

Looks like eclipse it self is becoming an new platform.
