Feed Description: BlackBox - Blog on Java, OpenSource, OS X, Movies, Restaurants and other things.
So, when I initially heard about Laszlo going OpenSource I was intrigued. I've been looking at RIA for a while (really need to post all the links I found) and had come across Flex and Laszlo at about the same time. A flash-based RIA intrigues me because DHTML still doesn't work the same on the same browser on different platforms (a friend wrote a CMS all in DHTML it works fine on Windows both Mozilla and Firefox, but is horribly broken on OS X, my platform of choice, even worse in Firefox 1.0 unfortunately). Plus I like the idea of snazzy widgets that aren't even available in Swing (think snazzy sliding drawers).
Flex no longer intrigues me after I heard the pricetag per dual-processor (their lowest license) at $12K a pop.
Update 1/5/05 - I am starting to develop one of my apps using LPS, and also assisting them with their Maven build. I'll try and keep this blog updated more regularly (one of my New Years' resolutions). Also I will be moving some of my tutorial blog entries and corporate entries over to Sandcast once I have the blog setup over there (waiting on new server to be finished, soon...soon).
