Even if you never write a requirements specification, it's important, as a software architect, to know what separates the good ones from the bad. Learn the fundamentals of writing a good spec and then pass on what you've learned to other members of your development team.

Mikko Kontio's "Designing Software Architectures" series of articles have been a good source for the developers and architects as well towards a better software design.

Although personally, I do not feel the Part 1 and Part 2 of this series were interesting enough, Part 3 (refer title of this post) is indeed an excellent work. Developers who are already familier with UML and OOAD may find this article quite introductory. But surely, its a good start for the beginners in the Software Design realm.
