The project I'm currently on uses Eclipse extensively. There really isn't an option to use IntelliJ so I'm being forced to switch. This has resulted in a frustrating couple days. I'm sure there are a whole list of features in IntelliJ that aren't in Eclipse and vice versa. I just don't know of an easy way to find similar functionality. My top list at the moment includes:
1. I miss ctrl-p
In IntellJ I could use this keystroke to see all the available method signatures based on the parameters I had supplied up to this point.
2. Code completion of variable names
I liked being able type String, then my..., and then code completing the variable name into myString.
3. Saving before refactoring
Why do I have to save my file to refactor? I may not be done making changes.
4. Search based on code structure
The options to search for classes based on their characteristics seems lax. In IntelliJ I could search on implements, extends, etc. The best I see now is references and declarations.
If there are any of you out there that have made a similar transition, I would appreciate a few pointers. Either respond to this post or email me. It would be extremely helpful to have the IM address of a few IntelliJ to Eclipse converts to bounce quick questions off of. My productivity has been getting nailed finding the answers to simple questions.
