Over at SoftwareReality.com they have an interview with Tim Boudreau of Netbeans. While we've never talked personally, Tim has always seemed like a good guy from the emails we've exchanged and forum posts I've seen. The interview brings up many interesting questions. Among the things Tim comments on are:

  • IDE Competition with JBuilder, IDEA, and Eclipse
  • Netbeans no longer being seen as a "cool IDE"
  • The Eclipse Reality Distortion Zone.

The inteview picks up steam towards the end by asking Tim about splitting about the windowing system and a common Swing components repository. I mentioned to Tim about separating the Windowing system before I got involved with FlexDock. There was too much coupling for an outsider to do it quickly. Tim also mentioned the TabContainer being split out by yours truely.
