searchblox recently announced version 2.0 of its open-source J2EE search engine, available for download. searchblox is compatible with all major Java application servers (i.e. jboss, websphere and weblogic) allowing for out-of-the-box implementation. the browser-based search engine supports both http and filesystem based document crawling, and can index and search formats such as ms word, excel, powerpoint; pdf; text and html documents in 18 languages. hopefully laTeX will join the list of supported formats sooner than later. :-)
