I'm happy to announce I've signed an agreement with SourceBeat to write the title Desktop Java Live. Here is the official press release:

Desktop Java Live by Scott Delap is written for Java developers familiar with client/server programming concepts. It will compare web-based applications and richer non browser-based clients. The first main section of book will cover three core rich client concepts: Threading, Layout Managers, and Look and Feel. The other two sections of the book will detail components available to Swing programmers and general client design issues. The book will have a Swing bias from a focus and example perspective. The reasoning for this is twofold. First, the majority of client-related open source technologies are Swing-based. Secondly, we feel that it would be confusing to some readers if there were a mix of SWT and Swing examples due to the differences of the API 1e00 ’s. However, we feel that a good percentage of the chapters below are of value to developers regardless of their chosen API.

Some of the concepts of Desktop Java include:

    • Introducing the Rich Client
    • Swing Threading
    • GUI Layout
    • GUI Look and Feel
    • Events and Messaging
    • Communication – Transports and Channel Design
    • Input Validation
I've got a feeling the outline will change between now and publication of the 1.0 version. Feel free to email me questions and suggestions.
