Last weekend, I had the wonderful pleasure of playing host to the one and only Kirk Pepperdine who descended upon our fair land to spend a few days with us.
I have known Kirk for a number of years and to this date, had never met face-to-face. Infact, there was only ever one photo of Kirk floating around when he wrote for JDJ so when asked to pick him up from the train station I was wondering how I would recognize him. Although Jason did note that he would probably recognize you since my face was plastered everywhere! Wasn't quite sure he was meaning that in an endearing way!
Anyway, as I suspected the photo of Kirk was no where near the reality. Fortunately for him, he looked way better (and younger!) in the flesh. He came into Carlisle station at midnight, and by the time we got home, watched the second presidential debate on BBC, crawled into bed around 3!
On Saturday we went for a game golf on one of the small courses Andy and I head to every so often. It was fun and the weather was good to us, with no hint of a rain, and the heat just above chilling. Andy won, with Kirk coming in second. I lost! Although in my defense I was merely being polite allowing the guest to win. Andy ... quite a competitive bugger when it comes to sport! ;)
On Sunday we went castle spotting and it was cool then watched iRobot and had a pleasant evening chilling out in front of the TV, and debating the merits of using a Playboy model in the world of tech publishing! More on that later.
It was a good weekend and in this day and age of online relationships it was wonderful to cement a friendship with the final face-to-face and I have to say to thoroughly enjoying the weekend and getting a good solid conversation as oppose to simply 'chat' or email. Kirk, my friend, you are more than welcome anytime again.
Now if that Bell boy can just come and not vandalize my flower garden we could probably get somewhere!!!!
