How did I miss this at JavaOne? I was there. Here is the News.com article on Sun licensing the technology and one of the developer's blog.

Now for the bad part ... the original developer of Watson has posted on his blog that Sun's development on the project has all but stopped. Make some noise and see if we can get the project back as a priority.
