It was very pleasing to turn up at the Sydney Geeknight last night (Monday) to find a long list of geeks to hear Matt Quail rave about Lucene (and a bit about Fisheye). The last time I was there we had an attendence of three. Since then the group has been powering ahead and organising lots of interesting presentations, although personally I haven't been able to attend for a month due to various causes. If you're in Sydney and a Java or related technohead then I (as well as The Squizlog) heartily recommend it.
