You may wonder why us J2ME developers are forced to download a whole slew of J2ME emulators just to get an application or game debugged and coded. This article from The Register, titled Motorola to Make Orange brand Handsets does a god job in describing the marketing trenads that drive this issue.

Because of the trend of handset vendors to repackage or rebrand phones per network operator; we developers are forced to downlaod every phone emulator from every vendor and telecom just to keep the application portable within our coding and testing process. Hopefully with MIDP2.0 being pushed into the marketplace at some point towards 3 years from now, we will not have this hardhsip in J2ME programming but for right now we have to accept this fact that this hardship is there within J2ME programming.
