Justin, who just finished his first year computing courses, gives an overview of what he thinks of programming so far. Having never studied programming at the University (Music Composition was so much more fun!) I can not connect with his feelings in the same way, however I can recall what it was like when I first started programming. Expect to do a lot of things wrong in order to get your programs working. Expect to go back weeks, months or years later and look at your own code and wonder what the hell you were thinking. Expect to cycle through a variety of programming tools before you find the combination which leads to your greatest productivity (and then expect to do it again in a year). Expect to write and rewrite a lot of code. Most of all expect to meet a lot of people who are a lot more experienced than you and be willing to listen to them.

Oh, and enable comments in your weblog. Now.
