Feed Description: My thoughts on Java, software development and technology.
It sounds daft, but why travel half way around the world to the worldwide Java developers conference if you're not going to talk to anybody! While it's possible to get away without human contact, you'll probably find you have a better time if you chat to the people that you meet. Take the time to chat to people that you meet in the technical sessions because they'll probably have similar interests (you're in the same session after all). To illustrate this point, I got chatting to the person sitting next to me in one of the technical sessions and his company were looking for some consultants to help with some J2EE work which my company at the time was in a position to offer. If only we'd been based on the west coast of the US! One of the important things for me about the conference is meeting people because you never know when that business card might come in handy. Oh, speaking of business cards, don't forget to take lots of your own!
Finally, and I'm sure you've seen this already, don't forget about the Java Bloggers meetup.
