Joel has a nice piece predicting the victory of Web Applications over (Microsoft) rich clients:

None of this bodes well for Microsoft and the profits it enjoyed thanks to its API power. The new API is HTML, and the new winners in the application development marketplace will be the people who can make HTML sing.

I'm a huge webapp fan -- due, no doubt in part to being a web application developer. Except for development (where I use Eclipse, emacs, JBoss, the JDK, and all that type of shit), I probably spend most of my computer time in Mozilla/Firewhatever using a handful of webapps: Bloglines, Blogger, and Gmail. (A good shell is always needed as well, but that's more of the infrastructure/OS, rather than "application," layer.)
