I'm just now starting to set up my new Debian server over at ServerMatrix. I've been a Redhat guy for many years so I'm a little out my element, but definitely enjoying the power of apt-get. I just updated my distrib in 60 seconds with apt-get update, apt-get dist-upgrade (Thanks to Matt for the live technical support on #mobitopia) and after modifying the sources file, I grabbed MySQL 4.0 in another 30 seconds. Insanely cool.
Now, unlike the installation that I'm currently running on, I'd like to *really* secure MySQL. I found this great Tutorial on *really* securing MySQL over at SecurityFocus. It's very detailed... and particularly complex. Jesus, isn't there just a "--make-secure" option for all this?
Anyways, has anyone noticed the dearth of up to date Debian books out there? I went to Staceys in downtown SF and to my local B&N and there were no Debian books - and a million Redhat and Fedora books. Urgh. I'm learning that the online Debian docs aren't bad, but I just want to sit on my couch with a 4" thick book and grok the system with a big overview, not piecemeal it online.
