<p>If you're wondering why there was no Java SE 7 Update 8 the release numbers were increased by one to conform with <a
href="http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/java-update-release-numbers-change-1836624.html">pattern of previous release numbers</a> - odd numbers indicating critical patch releases and even numbers as limited update releases. <br />

<p>So, it should come as no surprise that looking at the <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&zu=http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/7u9-relnotes-1863279.html">release notes</a> this is a bug fix release including 30 security fixes - see the <a
