After the news about the delay of JDK 7 Joe Darcy, the lead for Project Coin, has posted the likely impact to the release of the new language enhancements. If the release schedule is broken into two he's expecting we'll see the following Project Coin changes in the mid 2011 JDK 7 :

  • binary literals and underscores in literals
  • strings in switch
  • diamond operator
  • improved exception handling
  • simplified varargs method invocation
  • try-with-resources

The rest of the Project Coin changes would then be left for inclusion in the late 2012 JDK 8. It should be remembered that nothing is known for certain about what will happen, but it's good to get a heads up.
