As of the start of this month the old style Sun certifications have been brought into line with Oracle's Certification Program. No changes have been made as far as the actual exam objectives go, it's more a case of changing the certification title. For example,

  • Sun Certified Java Associate (SCJA) - > Oracle Certified Associate, Java SE 5 / SE 6
  • Sun Certified Java Developer (SCJD) - > Oracle Certified Master, Java SE6 Developer
  • Sun Certified Business Component Developer (SCBCD) EE5 - > Oracle Certified Professional, Java EE 5 Business Component Developer
  • Sun Certified Enterprise Architect (SCEA) EE5 - > Oracle Certified Master, Java EE 5 Enterprise Architect

A full list of title changes can be found in the Sun Certification Integration Reference pdf file.

It should be noted that Sun certifications already obtained are recognized under the new scheme. There's also no effect for anyone about to take an exam, except you'll be clutching an Oracle certified endorsement on your way out should you be successful.

Have a look at the FAQ at the bottom of the announcement page if you have any concerns.
