But are there actually any gay people who are in favor of Prop 8?
Genius Mike: "If Proposition 8 were about "values," whatever that means, then you should be able to slice and dice the population any way you want and find people on either side of the issue, regardless of whether they're personally harmed or helped by their position.
Example: I have met many women who are pro-life. They've traded one value (personal choice) in favor of another (sanctity of life).
Example: I'm in favor of women having voting rights, even though I'm a man.
Example: There are Silicon Valley zillionaires who are voting for Obama. If Obama is elected, they will pay more in income and capital gains tax as a result.
But are there actually any gay people who are in favor of Prop 8? I imagine not, though I'd be interested to hear the viewpoint of any who are. And if this (entirely unscientific) supposition is correct, then can it really be that Proposition 8 is about societal values? Or is it just about one group discriminating against another group?"
Hpricot Strikes Back
_why is having fun with benchmarks: "Someday, Nokogiri may be seven times faster than Hpricot. Someday it may be twelve times slower. In fact, on one single day, it may be five time faster, then fourteen times slower, then eleven-point-three times faster!
But Nokogiri has no fuzzy fruited emblem. And it does not dwell in an orchard of markup. (Such a very yummy orchard, you’d never believe!) I can put those statements in my promos and newsreels and they’ll never change."
C# 4.0: var, object and dynamic
Anders gives us more than just a look at C# 4, he gives us a look at the state of play for languages. Very interesting indeed.
Don't leave a trace: Private Browsing in Firefox
Info on the private browsing feature. I think I prefer how you can just open a new "window" in Chrome that is private. That is the flow I would like: "I want to debug my app and open up a new window that doesn't have my cookies etc" Other subtle features like booking something for my mum in a private session so it doesn't clash and give me her email as an option in all of my forms going forward.
Bob 4 Obama
Crazy Bob does a really nice piece on why he voted for Obama. I know that he liked Clinton, and I am really glad that he found good in Obama.
"Obama's commitment to wean us off oil in 10 years reminds me of Kennedy's promise to take us to the moon in the same amount of time. When Kennedy promised man would walk on the moon, no one had the slightest idea of how we'd get there. But we did it, and we'll do the same for energy, and the world will love us for it."
Mr. Benioff, Tear Down That Wall
The Zoho guys always impress me. They execute, and they have always been a pleasure to work with.
"Salesforce has repeatedly tried to block customers from migrating to Zoho CRM, by telling them (falsely) that they cannot take their data out of Salesforce until their contract duration is over. We have emails from customers recounting this.
Now, realize that we face a far, far bigger competitor in Google, and yet we have nothing but praise for the way they have worked with us. In the grand scheme of things, we are not going to be killed by Salesforce, that’s for sure. I have no personal animosity - even today, we would integrate Zoho into Force.com if they would let us, because that would benefit our customers and theirs - but when I read an interview where he blatantly spins a story starkly in condradiction to reality I have personal knowledge of, I have to call him on it."
Komodo 5 released
"Komodo 5 is based on Firefox 3!
New Mercurial SCC support ( and Git, and Bzr! )
Built-in code formatters for XML and (x)html, as well as the potential to tie in other code formatters/beautifiers.
Multiple top-level windows."
