Both Poky Linux and OpenMoko seem to be good choices. But with certain popular devices right now it seems that OpenMoko has the edge as far as some components and Poky Linux has the framework edge as fas being able to port easier. I am wondering if you could load OpenMoko components right into the Poky Framework build system. I really like that Poky Linux build system as it takes some real important porting concerns into account.

I know I can replace kernels. But as far as OpenMoko components or packages how much work involved ot inject them into the Poky Linux build system. Yeah, I do not have the $400k for LiMo and neither do you. Thus, find a way to have almost a full replacement not just kernel and packages but the full build/porting system as well.
