Today’s moth is #8914 in the Hodges Catalog, the Alfalfa Looper Moth, Autographa californica:

I found this just a week ago, September 7, at Santiago Oaks Regional Park in Orange. This is I think my third looper moth. I suspect they’re named after the caterpillars rather than the moth.
