One of the aspects of going from running Linux on VirtualBox to running native is that certain items have to be switched so that you get full 3d graphics card features. That means when you switch from Metacity to Compiz switch off xcompmgr as xcompmgr is an old composition module and prevents compiz from loading.

Still have not decided whether to stay with TwinView or try Xinemera. I could even do two separate X screens with their own docks, one with AWN and one with Cairo-Dock.
