Simone Bordet makes some very good points in his blog entry entitled Java's uncertain future. There certainly doesn't seem to be the same amount of buzz around Java as there ever was before. Sure, this is expected of a mature programming language/platform, but it's kind of hard to see where Java is heading at the moment. Aside from GlassFish, NetBeans and other languages running on the JVM; news on JDK 7 is scarce and the whole JavaFX strategy puzzles me. I think that Flex and Silverlight are better cross-platform UI frameworks (come along to my talk next Wednesday to find out why). There also seems to be an ever increasing amount of non-Java related content hitting java.blogs these days, which I imagine is reflective of the industry in some way.

I don't think Java is dying, but I do think it's taken a holiday.
