Back when I interviewed with Yahoo for a position on the YahooGo team my initial concept for Mobile Widgets as a platform was non centralized Meaning that anybody using the YahooGo widget api could make access available for any site not just Yahoo properties. The idea was than that influence in higher traffic would influence some independent content publishers to use Yahoo's ad system and that is where the revenue tie-in would come from. If you ok at the current YahooGO widget product thye are still in AOL mode, which is quite depressing. I do think Yahoo will ever get how the new internet works.
To those Yahoo staff that I know, I feel your frustration as Yahoo is now currently bankrupt on innovative ideas and lack of understanding of how de-centralized our current internet works as a business model.
