On the face of it, a patent on software processes is a good idea. If you can protect an invention with a patent then why not do the same with software? In many parts of the world such as the USA you actually can patent software. In others, like the EU you can't. Developers and companies have fought to keep software patents out of Europe, with the help of some political leaders
