Now that Jason and John have left.... it doesn't bode well for Mergere. Hopefully something else steps up to help the maven community. Another open source company in the dead pool.
Extending ActiveRecord::Base.find with new options
Jon has created Hitta (swedish for find), a Rails plugin to do full text search, letting you do full test queries with pagination, sorting, joins, and more.
API Hall of Shame: Lucene's IndexReader and IndexWriter
Lucene's API has long been painful. It was the *first* Java project for Doug Cutting and it shows (he admits it). On the other hand, it is an extremely fast and fantastic application that is generously open source, so you can't really complain.
