Frist, let me state that when I neede to use a J2EE serve for development that LGPL JBoss was there, which was in 1999 to 2004 time range. At that time it was one of the more innovative J2EE server products within the market.
But that was than and things have changed. Most JavaEE servers are moving towards OSGi if they want to be ahead of the pack and other innovations that are outside of the JavaEE spec but are possible due to new applications and implementations of the underlying Java and JavaEE new jsrs beyond JavaEE5.
Than we have the change in what is GPL 3 compatible to full inclusion of both EPL and ASF licensees. A welcome change for both java open source communities.
Since, summer of 2006 I have been researching what is new in the Apche Geronimo 2.0 product and how it is better than other products and offerings. Currently, my ejb2.1 to ejb3 porting tool is in planning stages.
I certainly have an advantage of using JBoss before and fully knowing its limitations when I compare it to Apache Geronimo 2.0. The disadvantage I have is that I am not fully versed in SAP's offering as of yet.
Some in the JBoss camp will term my writing Apache Geronimo articles and tutorials and a book as a threat to their very existence. Now, in my book when the competition starts doing threats like that it must mean you are doing something right not to mention validating my skills and expertise and the Apache Geronimo 2.0 implementation as being somewhat innovative and the right direction.
While there is no book title yet but their possibly is a publishing agent already interested, an Apache Geronimo 2.0 book by Fall 2007 is my goal!
