I've spent the last month working with Scala. I'm a hardcore ex-Java guy (I've written hundreds of thousands of lines of Java code over the last 10+ years.) Scala has much of Java's goodness, much of Ruby's goodness, and works with the existing Java infrastructure. Here's a list of what a Java guy should know about Scala:
