The number of additions and expansion in this area seems really significant to me and I had not heard a lot about it. New tools have been added and this page gives specific advice on using them to help solve difficult debugging problems (e.g. memory leaks and deadlocks). I also love that they removed the requirement that you pre-instrument your VM by setting command line options and instead allow you to connect JConsole up even if you didn't plan to do so from the start.
