AlephOne is the SDL environment port of the Marathon Game Engine. The AlephOne Scenarios can be found here. The reason why so many hold it in good standing is its a good 2.5D game engine example both the original and the port and the history around the game.

Some college kids in Chicago woke up one day and decided to drop out of school and become Mac Game Programmers. Unlike other stories of coding while a youngster they had never programmed that much before buying a copy of Metrowerks to code the first Mac game demo, Gnop.
