I am close to finishing my transition of my dev environment to Debian GNU/Linux from MS Windows. Obviously because I am running Debian through VMWare player I can leave certain times on the Windows side for now and transfer and set-up in wine later.
Other steps are integration of sub systems and applications. For example, fully installing all OOo templates, macros, and etc some of which integrate with such things as GNUCash programs and making templates to accept time data from Eclipse and other programs.
Finishing my eclipse configuration, including pointing to correct file where my passwords to SCM systems are stored, making sure scripting languages are properly configured, and etc. Have the document system run on windows side due to memory constraints as I only have 7 gig of the 20 gig free in Debian right now and my removeable hd still has about 65 gigs.
Last step is to configure, ie make/compile, the vmware-tools to finish the vmware player configuration. This way ai can fully share files and etc across both the guest and the host OSes.
