So you by mistake installed separate individual programs of a meta-package and now find that attempting to install one more program of that meta-package marks some previous programs installed to uninstall. The simple solution is unmark the offending program in Synaptic than mark the meta-package for installation first and it will show a message of upgrading other programs of the same meta-package. Than you can mark the offending program for installation under that meta-package without any problems.
