I have been going through my old 2001 php code to see if I could repackage some of it in some articles on PHP development becasue the Indianapolis start-up that left is till making the same stupid mistakes over andover agina and I see the same pattern in the average PHP developer.

The creator of PHP has good take on what techniques you need to concentrate on despite his PostgreSQL comments. The main optimization will be using APC opcode caching and the main protection will be filter user input in an automatic PHP5 way instead of the complicated re-inventing the wheel each time.

This you will not find in a college intern because this information has not filter down to CS classes on PHP as of yet and that combined with top management having no real development experience always spells disaster in the making for any start-up project, but I digress.
