While it may seem that the place to do those entries is /etc/profile that is not correct as that is only the bash profle. The correct place to playe the var=value pairs is in the /etc/environment file.

Yes, it is kind of cming back all that rusty Unix/Linux skills and knowledge just like an old friend.
