Okay folks it is dirt simple to avoid rebooting into the full netinstall.iso after the install into VMWare. First, do a 2 step install. Use install base system first to get to shell when you reboot the first time. Yes, still leave netinstall.iso mounted! Do an aptitdue install gnome-desktop-environment command. Now, after installing that shut down and correct yrou vmx file configuration to no longer mount the netinstall.iso file.

Than reboot and you should have a full Debian system with the gnome deskltop. You only need to use this methon if installing into some VM set-up such as VMWare player or etc.
