I will use theAgileFusion.com Blog post about extending J2meunit to indicate the correct way to extend anything in J2me. Because of the space requirements if you are adding an optional feature to a library or application usually you will extend the base class in another class as part of a new package.

You override the methods you are modiying and re-use the methods of the base class. This will save space for the library or application you are modifying because you are not fully re-coding the class. It allows those developers who do not need that fucntionality to eliminate that class from their code without any limitations or penalties.

In the j2meunit example the new class package is j2meunit.serverui and the class might be TetsSendToServerRunner.
