If you are worried about down loading an Eclipse Platform binary and using update manager to get the rest of Eclipse; than you should chase those worries away. Downloading and updating using Callisto is a breeze of ease and simplicity.

Even at slower connections, its fairly easy and no errors occur. Also, the update manager does warn you about dependencies so that you can choose the correct Eclipse Projects to download and the proper sequence.
